The one wood I do import from afar is Bamboo, although you can get it in the UK it's very expensive.  But this material is a super material, very fast growing and has been recorded growing a meter a day!

I made my office from bamboo tubes and strand woven Bamboo for the floor and desk.  It is a beautiful, versatile and very strong wood.

Due to its high growth rate and carbon capture properties it is super eco, but transport a problem.  However, Bamboo farming is increasing and if demand remains more local Bamboo will become available.

Honestly, I'm not taking the high road on this there are some positives, and some negatives.
