Elm is such an understated wood, when I first started using it I couldn't believe the lightness, the strength and the incredible patterns within.  Growing to 30 meters and around 100 years (400 years in some cases).  Due to is being quick growing and the high number of seeds it distributes it is easy to thin out in woods without harming numbers.  

Unfortunately most mature Elm trees were felled due to Dutch Elm disease, but the numbers are on the rise again.
